Read a text about the greenhouse effect. Choose the correct answer to fill in the gap.

A greenhouse is built with glass walls and a glass roof. It is used to (11) __________ plants, for example

tomatoes and tropical flowers. During daytime, the greenhouse is warmed up by the sunlight and remains

warm inside even after the sun sets because the glass walls of the greenhouse trap the Sun's heat.

Similarly, the greenhouse effect on Earth is a process that happens when the Sun's heat is trapped in the Earth's

atmosphere. Gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, work just (12) __________ the glass roof of a

greenhouse; thereby being called greenhouse gases. (13) __________, the Earth becomes a place which is

warm enough for humans and other species to live.

However, the Earth's natural greenhouse effect has been influenced by human activities such as burning coals

and oil. The amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere has been on the (14)

__________. As a result, more heat is being trapped in the atmosphere, which causes the Earth to warm up.

Plants are very important to balance the greenhouse effect as they can take in carbon dioxide and give (15)

__________ oxygen in the photosynthesis process.

PART II. RAEDING

Read the text about climate change below. Complete each of the sentences with NO MORE THAN

THREE WORDS from the text.

Preparing for the future is important for people in an era of rapidly changing environmental conditions. For

example, the government can prevent power disruptions when they know about a coming heatwave in

advance. Farmers in drought-prone areas can use watering systems more effectively if they know which crops

are likely to fail.

The Earth's climate changed dramatically due to human activity in the 20th century, and it will continue to do

so in the future. Decreasing greenhouse gas emissions might help mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.

However, with rising emissions, the impacts of climate change are expected to be even more severe in the 21st

century.

Climate change results from rising surface temperatures, also known as global warming. This is caused by the

greenhouse effect, a process in which Earth's atmosphere retains heat due to rising amounts of greenhouse

gases like carbon dioxide and methane. The year 2023 was the hottest year ever recorded, with temperatures

approximately 1.48 …
