Warm-up (3 minutes)

-T asks Ss to sing a song to warm up the class before entering the new lesson.

-Ss sing songs.

Listening

10 minutes

-T introduces the listening task. -T asks Ss to have a quick look at the content of the listening exercise. -T plays the tapes and asks Ss to listen to it three times. Each time has a short pause for Ss to check their answers. -T goes around the class and gets feedback from Ss. * Expected answers: 1. On the 15th January, 1929 2. In 1951 3. For your years 4. -T explains the task clearly and asks Ss to do the exercise individually. -T explains some new difficult words. -T goes around the class and helps Ss correct their mistakes in the answers. -T invites some Ss to present theirs answer in front of the class, and compares the answers with others. -T feedbacks from Ss and gives out remarks. * Expected answers: 1 – F; 2 – C; 3 – A; 4 – D; 5 – B

-Ss listen to T’s guidance.

-Ss do the exercise.

10 minutes

-T introduces the basic parts of a letter. -T asks Ss to read the letter carefully. -T requires Ss to work in groups of 6 to write a letter on the extra board. -T goes around the class and helps Ss. -T invites representatives of some groups to present their writing in front of the class. - T listen to Ss’ presentation and remarks.

-Ss listen and take notes. -Ss read the letter. -Ss work in groups of 6 and do the exercise.

-Ss present the writing in front of the class. -Ss listen to T’s remarks. Homework

2 minutes

-T asks Ss to rewrite the letter at home. -T asks Ss to review all the units from 1 – 3 for the first test.

-Ss listen and take notes.
