PAST SIMPLE – THÌ QUÁ KHỨ ĐƠN

I. Cách dùng.

(1) Diễn tả việc xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ, có thời gian rõ

ràng

(2) Diễn tả những việc xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ.

(3) Diễn tả những việc không thật (truyện cổ tích, viễn tưởng,

giấc mơ, điều ước cho tương lai….)

II. Xét xem những câu sau đây nằm trong cách dùng nào:

1. I was not happy at school this morning. …xảy ra và kết thúc ở QK…

2. She didn’t go to school last Friday. ...............................................

3. My students stood at the door, held a buck of

water and then poured all on my head. ...............................................

4. He had a new haircut yesterday. ...............................................

5. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess. ...............................................

PAST CONTINUOUS – THÌ QUÁ KHỨ TIẾP DIỄN

I. Cách dùng.

 (1) Diễn tả một hoặc nhiều việc đang xảy ra tại thời điểm xác định ở

quá khứ, thường có kèm theo giờ.

 (2) Diễn tả một việc đang tiến diễn ở quá khứ, bị việc khác xen vào.

Note: Việc xen vào được viết ở thì Quá khứ đơn (xem ví dụ).

 (3) Diễn tả nền(background) của một câu chuyện không thật, thường

là truyện cổ tích.

 (4)Diễn tả một việc thường xuyên xảy ra khiến người khác khó chịu,

bực mình, dùng với “always”.

Examples: (1) Last night at 7:00 pm, she was cooking in the kitchen. At that time, her father was reading newspaper and her son was doing his homework. (2) When Robert was working on his computer, someone knocked the door.

(3) That story happed in a beautiful day long time ago. On that day, the butterflies were flitting on the flowers….

(4) Although the teacher scolded Sam many times, he was always coming class late.
