1. Future plans: going to

1.1 Uses

 Going to expresses a person’s plans and intentions .

E.g.: She is going to be a ballet dancer when she grows up.

We are going to stay in a villa in France this summer.

 Often there is no difference between going to and the present continuous to refer to a future intention.

E.g.: I am seeing Peter tonight.

I am going to see Peter tonight.

 We also use going to when we can see now that something is sure to happen in the future

Eg: Careful! That glass is going to fall!

 With the verbs “to go”, “to come”, we usually use the Present continuous for future plans.

Eg: we are going to Paris next week.

Joe and Jim are coming for lunch tomorrow.

2. Infinitive of purpose

The infinitive can express why a person does something.

Eg: I am saving my money to buy a CD player. (= because I want to buy a CD player)

We’re going to Paris to have holiday. (=because we want to have a holiday)

Eg: I am saving my money for to buy a CD player.

I am saving my money for buy a CD player.

3. Preposition

I going to Florida in a year’s time.

He’s interested in flying.

She’s good at singing.

What’s the weather like?

She was afraid of cars.

What’s on TV tonight?

There’s a film on channel 4.

1. We use “shall” to ask for and make suggestions

Eg: What shall we do?

Shall we go swimming? = I suggest that we go swimming.

2. We use “let’s = let us” to make a suggestion for everyone.
