I. Grammar
1. Count and non-count nouns
Some nouns are countable
A book two books eg: I have a book/ two books.
An egg two eggs eg: I buy an egg/ two eggs.
Some nouns are uncountable
Bread, rice, water, … eg: I have breakfast with bread and milk.
Some nouns are both
Eg: Do you like ice-cream?
We’d like three ice-creams, please
2. Like and would like
Would is the same in all persons. We use would like in offers and requests.

3. Some and any
a. We use some in positive sentences with countable nouns and plural nouns
Eg: There is some bread on the table
I buy some butter She has some cakes There are some oranges in the fridge.

b. We use some in questions when we ask for things and offer things.
eg: Can I have some coffee, please? (I know there is some coffee.) would you like some grapes? (I know there are some grapes.)
c. We use any in questions and negatives sentences with uncountable nouns and plural nouns. Is there any water? (I don’t know if/ whether there is any water.) Does she have any children? (I don’t know if she has any children.) I can’t see any people. There aren’t any rice.
4. How much … and how many…?
a. we use how much…? with non-count nouns. eg: How much rice is there?
There is not much rice. How much butter do you have?
I don’t have any butter
b. We use how many…? with count nouns.
How many apples are there?
There are not many apples. How many people are there in your family?
There are four people. How many students are there in a class?
There are twenty students.
