BASIC FORM INVERSION + EXAMPLES
TYPE 1
If S1 + V1 (s/ es), S2 + will + V2.
E.g.: If he arrives late, we will go without him.
Should + S1 + V(nt), S2 + will + V2. E.g.: Should he arrive late, we will go without him.
TYPE 2
If S1 + V1-ed, S2 + would/ could + V2 (NT) (be were), E.g.1: If Ms. Anh had longer legs, she would be a model. E.g.2: If I were you, I would say “sorry” to her.
Were + S1 + to V1, S2 + would/ could + V2 (NT)
E.g.1: Were Ms. Anh to have loger legs, she would be a model. E.g.2: Were I (to be) you, I would say “sorry” to her.
TYPE 3
If S + had + PII, S + would/ could/ might + have + PII. E.g.1: If she had worked harder, she would have passed the exam.
Had + S + PII, S + would/ could/ might + have + PII. E.g.1: Had she worked harder, she would have passed the exem. If S + V-ed, S + would/ could/ might + have + PII. E.g.1: If I were taller, I would have won the beauty competition.
Were + S + to V, S + would/ could/ might + have + PII. E.g.1: Were I (to be) taller, I would have won the beauty competition. MIXED TYPE
If S + had + PII, S + would/ could + V. E.g.1: If she had worked harder last year, she would be happy now.
Had + S + PII, S + would/ could + V. E.g.1: Had she worked harder last year, she would be happy now.
