Many schools are starting to use AI tools to support teaching and learning. However, teachers and

school leaders need to understand what AI can and cannot do.

One of the biggest challenges for AI is copying the social and emotional skills that teachers have.

Teaching is not only about imparting information, but also about encouraging and inspiring students to

learn. Teachers know how to meet each student’s personal needs, which AI cannot do. More importantly,

while AI can give personalized exercises and quizzes, it cannot build the trust and relationships that

teachers create with their students.

AI is very good at solving problems that follow patterns and rules, like grading tests or checking

grammar. However, it is not helpful for tasks that need creativity. In education, students need to develop

creative skills to solve new problems and come up with original ideas. Teaching creativity is difficult

because each student thinks differently. AI cannot match a teacher’s ability to help them think creatively

and express their thoughts.

Another drawback of AI tools is that they cannot provide an engaging lecture. The way teachers

explain topics and share their passion can make a big difference in learning. Teachers use their voice,

body language, and energy to make lessons interesting. AI can quickly give basic explanations, but it

cannot create the same excitement that teachers bring to the classroom.

Feedback is very important for learning because it helps students understand their strengths and

areas for improvement. While AI can give quick responses, it cannot fully understand students’ emotions

or tones. Teachers, on the other hand, can read body language and emotions to offer better

feedback. This ability is especially useful when students need encouragement instead of comments on

their weaknesses.
