WORD FORM FOR FUN

There was a(n) ______________ of scientific publication in the period 1645-1660. (_ _ _ _ _) The teacher gave his students this word form exercise, but unfortunately he has forgotten the bracket. The following sentences are the hints of the bracket. You have to complete the below sentences and count how many letters of the words you filled in the blanks. Let a, b, c, etc. respectively be the number of letters you have counted. For example: a is the number of letters in the blank of sentence 1, b is the number of letters in the blank of sentence 2, and so on. Then workout the simple calculations, and the result is exactly the ordinal number in the English alphabet of the letters of the words in bracket. Complete the bracket and solve the above exercise. The letters of the bracket are arranged respectively from sentence 1 to sentence 5. Good luck.

Example: 1) The Grand Duke and his Duchess were in the ballroom, SUPERINTENDING the installation of the decorations. (INTEND) (a:2) The number of letters of the word “SUPERINTENDING” is 14 -> 14:2=7 -> “G” is the 7th letter in the alphabet so you fill G in the bracket. PS: The above example is only for instruction.
