General Vo Nguyen Giap was born in 1911 in Quang Binh Province. From an early age, he cared deeply about his country and later became a history teacher and a journalist. He joined the revolution and helped found the Vietnamese army. As a brilliant military commander, he led the Viet Minh forces to the historic victory at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, which put an end to French colonial rule in Vietnam. He is remembered as one of the greatest generals in Vietnamese history. He passed away in 2013 at the age of 103, and millions of people came to pay their respects. To me, his life story is inspiring because it shows how patriotism, intelligence and determination can change a nation's history.
